Rosé & Pinot Noir Cheese Matching at Milk the Cow – July 3, 2016

Rosé & Pinot Noir Cheese Matching at Milk the Cow Carlton

On Sunday July 3, we had 20 people attend our Rosé & Pinot Noir Cheese Matching event upstairs in the Grenier Room at Milk the Cow Carlton.

We had the usual suspects working with us being myself, my brother Andrew as well as Bela Rice who is the wine expert and Laura Lown, the cheesemonger.

The event went very smoothly – we actually thought it was the best event we have done at Milk the Cow Carlton in terms of the flow and organisation.

I did the introduction, Bela was great talking about the wines and Laura as usually blew everyone away with the cheese and the story behind each one.

Every time a hold an event at Milk the Cow which is at least once a month I hear people saying the same thing over and over again when the cheese and wine match perfectly which is “WOW” .

The audience was entertained.

The cheese and wine matching

Please note these down ladies & gentlemen because these are perfect matches selected by a cheesemonger (they are the best in the cheese world).

If you are having a cheese & wine party well you know what to choose.

You can find our wines online at www.topaustralianwines.com.au and the cheese at Milk the Cow

Werewolf Pinot Noir – A Wine Label that glows in the Dark

This is a pretty cool label and great for Halloween as well.

Has anyone ever seen a glow in the dark wine label before?

Yes it glows in the dark

The most liked Rosé

2013 Nino Franco Faive Sparkling Rosé (Veneto, Italy) – $34.99

80% Merlot 20% Cabernet Franc

This dry style of rosé has nose of perfume & small red fruits with floral notes. The palate is refreshing with soft tannins and persistent bubbles.

Well paired with mortadella, meat and mushroom dishes, fish or vegetable soups.

Excellent with “Lasagna”, “ Parmigiano or the typical Italian dish “vitello tonnato”

I have to say I really enjoyed this sparkling rosé – I think am going to keep a few of these myself.

The elegant pinot noir from the USA has a complex nose which is savoury & sweet with aromas of violets, cocoa, strawberry & plum.

On the palate there is pomegranate, mocha, blackberry & star of anise.

Rosé & Pinot Noir Yum Cha Lunch at Davids – July 23, 2016

July 23, 2016 – Rosé & Pinot Noir Yum Cha Lunch at Davids

July has been a very challenging month in terms of hosting wine events as it has been very quiet with the exception of our Rosé & Pinot Noir Yum Cha Lunch at Davids in Prahran.

Most events have had to be rescheduled and I was wondering why has it been so slow?

After speaking to a winemaker, he said it’s best to stay clear of July in terms of organising wine events because of the following reasons:

1. Cold Weather
2. School Holidays
3. Dry July
4. End of Financial Year
5. and the “deal breaker” –  the election (affects most industries)

Our Rosé & Pinot Noir Yum Cha Lunch at Davids Restaurant in Prahran is our busiest event and our previous two sessions we have booked out the entire venue for 80 people. This month we had 42 but it was a relief to get an event through.

We are constantly evolving our events and now we have an A5 booklet which has a greeting from myself, tasting notes of the wines being showcased, an order form with discounted prices of the wines for the day and all our contact details and social media details.

This event was very relaxed and the two hour session went along nicely without any problems.

We received some completed feedback forms from our guests and all of them were positive.

We take these forms seriously and it is only from these forms that we then know how to improve.

Rosé & Pinot Noir Yum Cha Lunch at Davids – June 18, 2016

,

Our Rosé & Pinot Noir Yum Cha Lunch at Davids is becoming even more popular with 80 bookings this time. We had to book out the entire venue for all our yum cha and wine lovers. This was also the first event where we increased the pour to 75ml per glass and reduced the number of wines from 8 to 6. The event now does not feel rushed and made a big difference in terms of the flow of the event. The event went very smoothly as we like to get very organised at these events. There were no issues or problems and the attendees were a very friendly bunch and a pleasure to meet.

Wines being showcased at our Rose & Pinot Noir Yum Cha Lunch on June 18, 2016

2015 Soumah Ai Fiori Rosé (Yarra Valley, VIC)

2015 TarraWarra Estate Pinot Noir Rosé (Yarra Valley, VIC)

2014 Cramele Recas Werewolf Pinot Noir (Transylvania, Romania)

2014 Cake Wines Pinot Noir (Adelaide Hills, SA)

2015 3 Drops Pinot Noir (Great Southern, WA)

2013 Brown Magpie Single Vineyard Pinot Noir (Bellarine, VIC)

The most popular wine for this lunch was the 2014 Cramele Recas Werewolf Pinot Noir (Transylvania, Romania). We sold over 60 bottles of this wine. Maybe it is the glow in the dark label which attracted them to buy the wine? I think the fact that it is a very pleasant light drinking wine and from Transylvania which people enjoyed. They like to try something different.

The next most popular wine is the 2013 Brown Magpie Single Vineyard Pinot Noir from the Bellarine region in Victoria. It actually comes from the Surf Coast. This wine won best Pinot Noir and wine of the show at the 2015 Boutique Wine Awards.

This is what attracted me to the wine and when I tried it for the first time, I was extremely impressed and have been selling this wine since.

Davids is known for their yum cha. They have a very good reputation as one of the best yum cha producers. We love yum cha and we believe that we have chosen wisely to have our events there.
