1998 Andraos Bros Olde Winilba Chardonnay vs 2007 Serafino Wild Ferment Sharktooth Chardonnay
It has been a while since I had a “wine-off” so I went to visit one of my best mates in Bendigo, and we had a wine-off between 2 excellent chardonnays.
There were 6 people who participated and here are the comments and results out of 100.
1998 Andraos Bros Olde Winilba Chardonnay (museum release, not available for sale)
It has a wonderful vibrant gold colour with an antique nose of lemon butter, melon, honey, vanilla.
The nose flows onto the palate and is a very smooth and deep wine with plenty of complexity.
Soft, creamy and buttery and very drinkable on its own.
A very long finish.
Average score: 97/100
2007 Serafino Wild Ferment Sharktooth Chardonnay
A yellow and lighter lemon colour.
The nose of honey, lime, melon and acid.
The taste is crisp and citrus with a small amount of spritz.
The palate displays honeydew melon, grapefruit & passionfruit.
It makes you salivate amd want more.
It is buttery with a super long finish.
Everyone was very impressed with both wines but in particular the 1998 Andraos Bros Olde Winilba Chardonnay, which still has plenty of life left and is a true reflection of the wine making skill of winemaker Fred Andraos.
